The Mehler natural fabric factory was founded in 1644 and is now run by Paulus and Ludwig Mehler in the 11th generation. This makes Mehler the oldest fabric manufacturer and also the 29th oldest industrial company in Germany.
The company's headquarters in Tirschenreuth has a long tradition of production and even Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was impressed by it during his visit in 1786. He is supposed to have said, "The clothier's town is beautifully situated".
